Our original plan was to do a travers of the Tochuhorn and then make something up from there, but the morning started with a thick wave of clouds coming up the valley from Italy, so we re-planned at breakfast.
After walking towards the Hospiz, we take the hiking path up, up, up towards the Monte Leone hut that we followed when we did the Wasenhorn traverse back in 2018. It's sunny, but there's a nice breeze so things aren't too hot. Up, up we go, with a short snack break after about an hour and half, until we hit the Mäderlicke and, a minute or so later, the Mäderhorn. After enjoying the fantastic views, we follow the hiking path down, down, down the other side. There's less breeze over here, so things are plenty warm. We do a nice food break near a stream shortly before hitting the larger hiking path. This we follow onwards and around the corner, at times under trees, at times in the sun, unfortunately without much breeze. Once around the corner and near the path to the Furrgubäumlicke we get a nice breeze again, which stays with us as we ascend up, up a bit to the Bortelhütte. No stopping today... onwards we go, continuing along the path, and then along some suonen, in and out of side valleys until we get to Rosswald.
